## š Scripture Text (NET)
2Ā The heavens and the earthĀ were completed with everything that was in them.Ā 2Ā ByĀ the seventh day God finished the work that he had been doing,Ā and he ceasedĀ on the seventh day all the work that he had been doing.Ā 3Ā God blessed the seventh day and made it holyĀ because on it he ceased all the work that heĀ had been doing in creation.
### The Creation of Man and Woman
4Ā This is the accountĀ of the heavens and the earthĀ when they were createdāwhenĀ theĀ LordĀ GodĀ made the earth and heavens.
5Ā NowĀ no shrub of the field had yet grown on the earth, and no plant of the fieldĀ had yet sprouted, for theĀ LordĀ God had not caused it to rain on the earth, and there was no man to cultivate the ground.Ā 6Ā SpringsĀ would well upfrom the earth and waterĀ the whole surface of the ground.Ā 7Ā TheĀ LordĀ God formedĀ the man from the soil of the groundĀ and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life,Ā and the man became a living being.
8Ā TheĀ LordĀ God planted an orchardĀ in the east,Ā in Eden;Ā and there he placed the man he had formed.Ā 9Ā TheĀ LordĀ God made all kinds of trees grow from the soil,Ā every tree that was pleasing to look atĀ and good for food. (NowĀ the tree of lifeĀ and the tree of the knowledge of good and evilĀ were in the middle of the orchard.)
10Ā NowĀ a river flowsĀ from EdenĀ to water the orchard, and from there it dividesinto four headstreams.Ā 11Ā The name of the first is Pishon; it runs throughĀ the entire land of Havilah, where there is gold.Ā 12Ā (The gold of that land is pure;pearlsĀ and lapis lazuliĀ are also there).Ā 13Ā The name of the second river is Gihon; it runs throughĀ the entire land of Cush.Ā 14Ā The name of the third river is Tigris; it runs along the east side of Assyria.Ā The fourth river is the Euphrates.
15Ā TheĀ LordĀ God took the man and placedĀ him in the orchard inĀ Eden to care for it and to maintain it.Ā 16Ā Then theĀ LordĀ God commandedĀ the man, āYou may freely eatĀ fruitĀ from every tree of the orchard,Ā 17Ā butĀ you must not eatĀ from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for whenĀ you eat from it you will surely die.ā
18Ā TheĀ LordĀ God said, āIt is not good for the man to be alone.Ā I will make a companionĀ for him who corresponds to him.āĀ 19Ā TheĀ LordĀ God formedĀ out of the ground every living animal of the field and every bird of the air. He brought them to the man to see what he wouldĀ name them, and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name.Ā 20Ā So the man named all the animals, the birds of the air, and the living creatures of the field, but for Adamno companion who corresponded to him was found.Ā 21Ā So theĀ LordĀ God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep,Ā and while he was asleep,Ā he took part of the manās sideĀ and closed up the place with flesh.Ā 22Ā Then theĀ LordGod madeĀ a woman from the part he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.Ā 23Ā Then the man said,
āThis one at lastĀ is bone of my bones
and flesh of my flesh;
this one will be calledĀ āwoman,ā
for she was taken out ofĀ man.ā
24Ā That is whyĀ a man leavesĀ his father and mother and unites withĀ his wife, and they become one family.Ā 25Ā The man and his wife were both naked,Ā but they were not ashamed.
