Biblical Studies Press, 2005) After Rehoboam’s rule was established and solidified, he and all Israel rejected the law of theĀ Lord.Ā 2Ā Because they were unfaithful to theĀ Lord, in King Rehoboam’s fifth year, King Shishak of Egypt attacked Jerusalem.Ā 3Ā He had 1,200 chariots, 60,000 horsemen, and an innumerable number of soldiers who accompanied him from Egypt, including Libyans, Sukkites, and Cushites.Ā 4Ā He captured the fortified cities of Judah and marched against Jerusalem. 5Ā Shemaiah the prophet visited Rehoboam and the leaders of Judah who were assembled in Jerusalem because of Shishak. He said to them, ā€œThis is what theĀ LordĀ says: ā€˜You have rejected me, so I have rejected you and will hand you over to Shishak.ā€™ā€Ā 6Ā The leaders of Israel and the king humbled themselves and said, ā€œTheĀ LordĀ is just.ā€Ā 7Ā When theĀ LordĀ saw that they humbled themselves, theĀ Lord’s message came to Shemaiah: ā€œThey have humbled themselves, so I will not destroy them. I will deliver them soon.Ā My anger will not be unleashed againstĀ Jerusalem through Shishak.Ā 8Ā Yet they will become his subjects, so they can experience how serving me differs from serving the surrounding nations.ā€ 9Ā King Shishak of Egypt attacked Jerusalem and took away the treasures of theĀ Lord’s temple and of the royal palace; he took everything, including the gold shields that Solomon had made.Ā 10Ā King Rehoboam made bronze shields to replace them and assigned them to the officers of the royal guardĀ who protected the entrance to the royal palace.Ā 11Ā Whenever the king visited theĀ Lord’s temple, the royal guards carried them and then brought them back to the guardroom. 12Ā So when RehoboamĀ humbled himself, theĀ LordĀ relented from his anger and did not annihilate him;Ā Judah experienced some good things.Ā 13Ā King Rehoboam solidified his rule in Jerusalem;Ā heĀ was forty-one years old when he became king, and he ruled for seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city theĀ LordĀ chose from all the tribes of Israel to be his home.Ā Rehoboam’sĀ mother was an Ammonite named Naamah.Ā 14Ā He did evil because he was not determined to follow theĀ Lord. 15Ā The events of Rehoboam’s reign, from start to finish, are recordedĀ in the Annals of Shemaiah the Prophet and of Iddo the Seer that include genealogical records. There were wars between Rehoboam and Jeroboam continually.Ā 16Ā Then Rehoboam passed awayĀ and was buried in the City of David.Ā His son Abijah replaced him as king. ## ==šŸ“– Verse-by-Verse Commentary== - coming soon. %% PRIVATE NOTES (only I see this) Write something for each verse Each verse is important. %% ## šŸ¤” Interesting Facts / Historical and Cultural Insights - coming soon. %% PRIVATE NOTES (only I see this) Write down things that are not straight from commentary but interesting facts that ground the text in history. %% ## 🧠 Chapter Summary - coming soon. %% PRIVATE NOTES (only I see this) Write a short paragraph (3–5 sentences) summarizing what happens in this chapter. - What is the main event or teaching? - How does this chapter fit the book’s overall story? - What stands out immediately?
