Biblical Studies Press, 2005) When King Jehoshaphat of Judah returned home safely to Jerusalem,Ā 2Ā the prophetĀ Jehu son of Hanani confronted him;Ā he said to King Jehoshaphat, ā€œIs it right to help the wicked and be an ally of those who oppose theĀ Lord?Ā Because you have done this, theĀ LordĀ is angry with you!Ā 3Ā Nevertheless you have done some good things;Ā you removedĀ the Asherah poles from the land and you were determined to follow God.ā€ ### Jehoshaphat Appoints Judges 4Ā Jehoshaphat lived in Jerusalem. He went out among the people from Beer Sheba to the hill country of Ephraim and encouraged them to followĀ theĀ LordĀ God of their ancestors.Ā 5Ā He appointed judges throughout the land and in each of the fortified cities of Judah.Ā 6Ā He told the judges, ā€œBe careful what you do,Ā for you are not judging for men, but for theĀ Lord, who will be with you when you make judicial decisions.Ā 7Ā Respect theĀ LordĀ and make careful decisions, for theĀ LordĀ our God disapproves of injustice, partiality, and bribery.ā€ 8Ā In Jerusalem Jehoshaphat appointed some Levites, priests, and Israelite family leaders to judge on behalf of theĀ LordĀ and to settle disputes among the residents of Jerusalem.Ā 9Ā He commanded them: ā€œCarry out your duties with respect for theĀ Lord, with honesty, and with pure motives.Ā 10Ā Whenever your countrymen who live in the cities bring a case before youĀ (whether it involves a violent crimeĀ or other matters related to the law, commandments, rules, and regulations), warn them that they must not sin against theĀ Lord. If you fail to do so, God will be angry with you and your colleagues, but if you obey, you will be free of guilt.Ā 11Ā Take note, Amariah the chief priest will overseeĀ you in every matter pertaining to theĀ LordĀ and Zebadiah son of Ishmael, the leader of the family of Judah, in every matter pertaining to the king. The Levites will serve as officials before you. Act courageously,Ā and may theĀ LordĀ be with those who do well!ā€ ## ==šŸ“– Verse-by-Verse Commentary== - coming soon. %% PRIVATE NOTES (only I see this) Write something for each verse Each verse is important. %% ## šŸ¤” Interesting Facts / Historical and Cultural Insights - coming soon. %% PRIVATE NOTES (only I see this) Write down things that are not straight from commentary but interesting facts that ground the text in history. %% ## 🧠 Chapter Summary - coming soon. %% PRIVATE NOTES (only I see this) Write a short paragraph (3–5 sentences) summarizing what happens in this chapter. - What is the main event or teaching? - How does this chapter fit the book’s overall story? - What stands out immediately?
