## š Scripture Text (NET)
(The NET Bible: New English Translation. Biblical Studies Press, 2005)
### The Lord Ratifies the Covenant
[[#Verse 01.]] But to Moses theĀ LordĀ said, āCome upĀ to theĀ Lord, you and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel, and worship from a distance.Ā
[[#Verse 02.]]Ā Moses alone may come nearĀ theĀ Lord, but the othersĀ must not come near,Ā nor may the people go up with him.ā
[[#Verse 03.]]Ā Moses cameĀ and told the people all theĀ Lordās wordsĀ and all the decisions. All the people answered together,Ā āWe are willing to doĀ all the words that theĀ LordĀ has said,āĀ
[[#Verse 04.]]Ā and Moses wrote down all the words of theĀ Lord. Early in the morning he builtĀ an altar at the footĀ of the mountain and arrangedĀ twelve standing stonesāaccording to the twelve tribes of Israel.Ā
[[#Verse 05.]]Ā He sent young Israelite men,Ā and they offered burnt offerings and sacrificed young bulls for peace offeringsĀ to theĀ Lord.Ā
[[#Verse 06.]]Ā Moses took half of the blood and put it in bowls, and half of the blood he splashed on the altar.Ā
[[#Verse 07.]]Ā He took the Book of the CovenantĀ and read it aloudĀ to the people, and they said, āWe are willing to do and obeyĀ all that theĀ LordĀ has spoken.āĀ
[[#Verse 08.]]Ā So Moses took the blood and splashed it onĀ the people and said, āThis is the blood of the covenantĀ that theĀ LordĀ has made with you in accordance with all these words.ā
[[#Verse 09.]]Ā Moses and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and the seventy elders of Israel went up,Ā
[[#Verse 10.]] and they sawĀ the God of Israel. Under his feetĀ there was something like a pavementĀ made of sapphire, clear like the sky itself.Ā
[[#Verse 11.]]Ā But he did not lay a handĀ on the leaders of the Israelites, so they saw God,Ā and they ate and they drank.
[[#Verse 12.]] TheĀ LordĀ said to Moses, āCome up to me on the mountain and remain there, and I will give you the stone tabletsĀ withĀ the law and the commandments that I have written, so that you may teach them.āĀ
[[#Verse 13.]]Ā So Moses set outĀ withĀ Joshua his attendant, and Moses went up the mountain of God.Ā
[[#Verse 14.]]Ā He told the elders, āWait for us in this place until we return to you. Here areĀ Aaron and Hur with you. Whoever has any matters of disputeĀ can approachĀ them.ā
[[#Verse 15.]]Ā Moses went up the mountain, and the cloud covered the mountain.Ā
[[#Verse 16.]]Ā The glory of theĀ LordĀ residedĀ on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it for six days.Ā On the seventh day he called to Moses from within the cloud.Ā
[[#Verse 17.]]Ā Now the appearance of the glory of theĀ LordĀ was like a devouring fire on the top of the mountain in plain viewĀ of the people.Ā
[[#Verse 18.]]Ā Moses went into the cloud when he went upĀ the mountain, and Moses was on the mountain forty days and forty nights.
