Biblical Studies Press, 2005) [[#Verse 01.]] TheĀ LordĀ said to Moses, ā€œGo upĀ from here, you and the people whom you brought up out of the land of Egypt, to the land I promised on oathĀ to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, saying, ā€˜I will give it to your descendants.’  [[#Verse 02.]]Ā I will send an angelĀ before you, and I will drive out the Canaanite, the Amorite, the Hittite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite.Ā  [[#Verse 03.]]Ā Go upĀ to a land flowing with milk and honey. ButĀ I will not go up among you, for you are a stiff-necked people, and I might destroy youĀ on the way.ā€ [[#Verse 04.]]Ā When the people heard this troubling wordĀ they mourned;Ā no one put on his ornaments.Ā  [[#Verse 05.]]Ā ForĀ theĀ LordĀ had said to Moses, ā€œTell the Israelites, ā€˜You are a stiff-necked people. If I went up among you for a moment,Ā I might destroy you. Now take off your ornamentsĀ that I may knowĀ what I should do to you.ā€™ā€ [[#Verse 06.]]Ā So the Israelites stripped off their ornaments by Mount Horeb. ### The Presence of the Lord [[#Verse 07.]]Ā Ā Moses tookĀ the tentĀ and pitched it outside the camp, at a good distanceĀ from the camp, and he called it the tent of meeting. AnyoneĀ seekingĀ theĀ LordĀ would go out to the tent of meeting that was outside the camp. [[#Verse 08.]]Ā And when Moses went outĀ to the tent, all the people would get upĀ and stand at the entrance to their tentsĀ and watchĀ Moses until he entered the tent.Ā  [[#Verse 09.]]Ā AndĀ whenever Moses entered the tent, the pillar of cloud would descend and stand at the entrance of the tent, and theĀ LordĀ would speak with Moses.Ā  [[#Verse 10.]]Ā When all the people would see the pillar of cloud standing at the entrance of the tent, all the people, each one at the entrance of his own tent, would rise and worship.Ā  [[#Verse 11.]]Ā TheĀ LordĀ would speak to Moses face to face,Ā the way a person speaksĀ to a friend. Then MosesĀ would return to the camp, but his servant, Joshua son of Nun, a young man, did not leave the tent. [[#Verse 12.]]Ā Moses said to theĀ Lord, ā€œSee, you have been saying to me, ā€˜Bring this people up,’ but you have not let me know whom you will send with me. But you said, ā€˜I know you by name,Ā and also you have found favor in my sight.’  [[#Verse 13.]]Ā Now if I have found favor in your sight, show meĀ your way, that I may know you,Ā that I may continue to findĀ favor in your sight. And seeĀ that this nation is your people.ā€ [[#Verse 14.]]Ā And theĀ LordĀ said, ā€œMy presenceĀ will go with you,Ā and I will give you rest.ā€ [[#Verse 15.]]Ā And MosesĀ said to him, ā€œIf your presence does not goĀ with us,Ā do not take us up from here.Ā  [[#Verse 16.]]Ā For how will it be known then that I have found favor in your sight, I and your people? Is it not by your going with us, so that we will be distinguished, I and your people, from all the people who are on the face of the earth?ā€ [[#Verse 17.]]Ā TheĀ LordĀ said to Moses, ā€œI will do this thing also that you have requested, for you have found favor in my sight, and I knowĀ you by name.ā€ [[#Verse 18.]]Ā And MosesĀ said, ā€œShow me your glory.ā€ [[#Verse 19.]]Ā And theĀ LordĀ said, ā€œI will make all my goodnessĀ pass before your face, and I will proclaim theĀ LordĀ by nameĀ before you; I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious; I will show mercy to whom I will show mercy.ā€Ā  [[#Verse 20.]]Ā But he added, ā€œYou cannot see my face, for no one canĀ see me and live.ā€Ā  [[#Verse 21.]]Ā TheĀ LordĀ said, ā€œHereĀ is a place by me; you will station yourselfĀ on a rock.Ā  [[#Verse 22.]]Ā When my glory passes by, I will put you in a cleft in the rock and will coverĀ you with my handĀ while I pass by.Ā  [[#Verse 23.]]Ā Then I will take away my hand, and you will see my back,Ā but my face must not be seen.ā€ ## ==šŸ“– Verse-by-Verse Commentary== ###### Overall. ###### Verse 01. ###### Verse 02. ###### Verse 03. ###### Verse 04. ###### Verse 05. ###### Verse 06. ###### Verse 07. ###### Verse 08. ###### Verse 09. ###### Verse 10. ###### Verse 11. ###### Verse 12. ###### Verse 13. ###### Verse 14. ###### Verse 15. ###### Verse 16. ###### Verse 17. ###### Verse 18. ###### Verse 19. ###### Verse 20. ###### Verse 21. ###### Verse 22. ###### Verse 23. ## šŸ¤” Interesting Facts / Historical and Cultural Insights - coming soon. %% PRIVATE NOTES (only I see this) Write down things that are not straight from commentary but interesting facts that ground the text in history. %% ## 🧠 Chapter Summary - coming soon. %% PRIVATE NOTES (only I see this) Write a short paragraph (3–5 sentences) summarizing what happens in this chapter. - What is the main event or teaching? - How does this chapter fit the book’s overall story? - What stands out immediately?
