Biblical Studies Press, 2005) [[#Verse 01.]] Jeremiah finished telling all the people all these things theĀ LordĀ their God had sent him to tell them.Ā  [[#Verse 02.]]Ā Then AzariahĀ son of Hoshaiah, Johanan son of Kareah, and other arrogant men said to Jeremiah, ā€œYou are telling a lie! TheĀ LordĀ our God did not send you to tell us, ā€˜You must not go to Egypt and settle there.’  [[#Verse 03.]]Ā But Baruch son of Neriah is stirring you up against us.Ā He wants to hand us over toĀ the BabyloniansĀ so that they will kill us or carry us off into exile in Babylon.ā€Ā  [[#Verse 04.]]Ā So Johanan son of Kareah, all the army officers, and all the rest of the people did not obey theĀ Lord’s command to stay in the land of Judah.Ā  [[#Verse 05.]]Ā Instead Johanan son of Kareah and all the army officers led off all the Judean remnant who had come back to live in the land of Judah from all the nations where they had been scattered.Ā  [[#Verse 06.]]Ā They also led off all the men, women, children, and royal princessesĀ that Nebuzaradan, the captain of the royal guard, had left with Gedaliah,Ā the son of Ahikam and grandson of Shaphan; this included the prophet Jeremiah and Baruch son of Neriah.Ā  [[#Verse 07.]]Ā They went on to EgyptĀ because they refused to obey theĀ Lord, and came to Tahpanhes. ### Jeremiah Predicts that Nebuchadnezzar Will Plunder Egypt and Its Gods [[#Verse 08.]]Ā At Tahpanhes theĀ Lord’s message came to Jeremiah:Ā  [[#Verse 09.]]Ā ā€œTake some large stonesĀ and bury them in the mortar of the clay pavementĀ at the entrance of Pharaoh’s residenceĀ here in Tahpanhes. Do it while the people of Judah present there are watching.Ā  [[#Verse 10.]]Ā Then tell them,Ā ā€˜TheĀ LordĀ of Heaven’s Armies, the God of Israel,Ā says, ā€œI will bringĀ my servantĀ King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon. I will set his throne over these stones that IĀ have buried. He will pitch his royal tentĀ over them.Ā  [[#Verse 11.]]Ā He will come and attack Egypt. Those who are destined to die of disease will die of disease. Those who are destined to be carried off into exile will be carried off into exile. Those who are destined to die in war will die in war.Ā  [[#Verse 12.]]Ā He will set fireĀ to the temples of the gods of Egypt. He will burn their gods or carry them off as captives.Ā He will pick Egypt clean like a shepherd picks the lice from his clothing.Ā He will leave there unharmed.Ā  [[#Verse 13.]]Ā He will demolish the sacred pillars in the temple of the sunĀ in Egypt and will burn down the temples of the gods of Egypt.ā€ā€™ā€ ## ==šŸ“– Verse-by-Verse Commentary== ###### Overall. ###### Verse 01. ###### Verse 02. ###### Verse 03. ###### Verse 04. ###### Verse 05. ###### Verse 06. ###### Verse 07. ###### Verse 08. ###### Verse 09. ###### Verse 10. ###### Verse 11. ###### Verse 12. ###### Verse 13. ## šŸ¤” Interesting Facts / Historical and Cultural Insights - coming soon. %% PRIVATE NOTES (only I see this) Write down things that are not straight from commentary but interesting facts that ground the text in history. %% ## 🧠 Chapter Summary - coming soon. %% PRIVATE NOTES (only I see this) Write a short paragraph (3–5 sentences) summarizing what happens in this chapter. - What is the main event or teaching? - How does this chapter fit the book’s overall story? - What stands out immediately?
