Biblical Studies Press, 2005) ### Superscription [[#Verse 01.]]Ā Ā This is theĀ Lord’s message that came to Hosea son of Beeri during the time ofĀ Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, and during the time of Jeroboam son of Joash,Ā king of Israel. ### Symbols of Sin and Judgment: The Prostitute and Her Children [[#Verse 02.]]Ā When theĀ LordĀ first spokeĀ throughĀ Hosea, heĀ said to him,Ā ā€œGo marryĀ a prostituteĀ who will bear illegitimate children conceived through prostitution,Ā because the nationĀ continually commits spiritual prostitutionĀ by turning away fromĀ theĀ Lord.ā€Ā  [[#Verse 03.]]Ā So Hosea marriedĀ Gomer, the daughter of Diblaim. Then she conceived and gave birth to a son for him. [[#Verse 04.]]Ā Then theĀ LordĀ said to Hosea,Ā ā€œName him ā€˜Jezreel,’ because in a little while I will punish the dynastyĀ of Jehu on account of the bloodshedĀ in the valley of Jezreel,Ā and I will put an end to the kingdomĀ of Israel.Ā  [[#Verse 05.]]Ā At that time,Ā I will destroy the military powerĀ of Israel in the valley of Jezreel.ā€ [[#Verse 06.]]Ā She conceived again and gave birth to a daughter. Then theĀ LordĀ said to him, ā€œName her ā€˜No Pity’ (Lo-Ruhamah) because I will no longer have pityĀ on the nationĀ of Israel. ForĀ I will certainly not forgiveĀ their guilt.Ā  [[#Verse 07.]]Ā But I will have pity on the nationĀ of Judah.Ā I will deliver them by theĀ LordĀ their God; I will not deliver them by the warrior’s bow, by sword, by military victory,Ā by chariot horses, or by chariots.ā€ [[#Verse 08.]]Ā WhenĀ she had weaned ā€œNo Pityā€ (Lo-Ruhamah), she conceived again and gave birth to another son.Ā  [[#Verse 09.]] Then theĀ LordĀ said: ā€œName him ā€˜Not My People’ (Lo-Ammi), because youĀ are not my people and I am not yourĀ God.ā€ ### The Restoration of Israel [[#Verse 10.]]Ā (2:1)Ā However,Ā in the future the number of the peopleĀ of Israel will be like the sand of the sea that can be neither measured nor numbered. AlthoughĀ it was said to them, ā€œYou are not my people,ā€ it will be said to them, ā€œYou areĀ childrenĀ of the living God!ā€ [[#Verse 11.]]Ā Then the peopleĀ of Judah and the people of Israel will be gathered together. They will appoint for themselves one leader,Ā and will flourish in the land.Ā Certainly,Ā the day of Jezreel will be great! ## ==šŸ“– Verse-by-Verse Commentary== ###### Overall. ###### Verse 01. ###### Verse 02. ###### Verse 03. ###### Verse 04. ###### Verse 05. ###### Verse 06. ###### Verse 07. ###### Verse 08. ###### Verse 09. ###### Verse 10. ###### Verse 11. ## šŸ¤” Interesting Facts / Historical and Cultural Insights - coming soon. %% PRIVATE NOTES (only I see this) Write down things that are not straight from commentary but interesting facts that ground the text in history. %% ## 🧠 Chapter Summary - coming soon. %% PRIVATE NOTES (only I see this) Write a short paragraph (3–5 sentences) summarizing what happens in this chapter. - What is the main event or teaching? - How does this chapter fit the book’s overall story? - What stands out immediately?
