Biblical Studies Press, 2005) ### Sin-Offering Regulations [[#Verse 01.]]Ā Then theĀ LordĀ spoke to Moses:Ā  [[#Verse 02.]]Ā ā€œTell the Israelites, ā€˜When a person sins by straying unintentionallyĀ from any of theĀ Lord’s commandments which must not be violated, and violates anyĀ one of them— ### For the Priest [[#Verse 03.]]Ā ā€œā€˜If the high priestĀ sins so that the people are guilty,Ā on account of the sin he has committed he must present a flawless young bull to theĀ LordĀ for a sin offering.Ā  [[#Verse 04.]]Ā He must bring the bull to the entrance of the Meeting Tent before theĀ Lord, lay his hand on the head of the bull, and slaughter the bull before theĀ Lord.Ā  [[#Verse 05.]]Ā Then that high priest must take some of the bloodĀ of the bull and bring it to the Meeting Tent.Ā  [[#Verse 06.]]Ā The priest must dip his finger in the blood and sprinkleĀ some of itĀ seven times before theĀ LordĀ towardĀ the front of the special curtainĀ of the sanctuary.Ā  [[#Verse 07.]]Ā The priest must put some of the blood on the horns of the altar of fragrant incense that is before theĀ LordĀ in the Meeting Tent, and all the rest of the bull’s blood he must pour out at the base of the altar of burnt offering that is at the entrance of the Meeting Tent. [[#Verse 08.]]Ā ā€œā€˜Then he must take up all the fat from the sin offering bull:Ā the fat covering the entrailsĀ and all the fat surrounding the entrails, [[#Verse 09.]]Ā the two kidneys with the fat on their sinews, and the protruding lobe on the liver (which he is to remove along with the kidneys)Ā  [[#Verse 10.]] —just as it is taken from the ox of the peace-offering sacrifice—and the priest must offer them up in smoke on the altar of burnt offering.Ā  [[#Verse 11.]]Ā But the hide of the bull, all its flesh along with its head and its legs, its entrails, and its dung—  [[#Verse 12.]]Ā all the rest of the bull—he must bring outside the campĀ to a ceremonially clean place,Ā to the fatty-ash pile,Ā and he must burnĀ it on a wood fire; it must be burned on the fatty-ash pile. ### For the Whole Congregation [[#Verse 13.]]Ā ā€œā€˜If the whole congregation of Israel strays unintentionallyĀ and the matter is not noticed byĀ the assembly, and they violate one of theĀ Lord’s commandments, which must not be violated,Ā so they become guilty,Ā  [[#Verse 14.]]Ā the assembly must present a young bull for a sin offering when the sin they have committedĀ becomes known. They must bring it before the Meeting Tent,Ā  [[#Verse 15.]]Ā the elders of the congregation must lay their hands on the head of the bull before theĀ Lord, and someone must slaughterĀ the bull before theĀ Lord.Ā  [[#Verse 16.]]Ā Then the high priestĀ must bring some of the blood of the bull to the Meeting Tent,Ā  [[#Verse 17.]]Ā and that priest must dip his finger in the bloodĀ and sprinkleĀ some of the blood seven timesĀ before theĀ LordĀ toward the front of the curtain.Ā  [[#Verse 18.]]He must put some of the blood on the horns of the altarĀ which is before theĀ LordĀ in the Meeting Tent, and all the rest of the blood he must pour out at the base of the altar of burnt offering that is at the entrance of the Meeting Tent. [[#Verse 19.]]Ā ā€œā€˜Then the priestĀ must take all its fatĀ and offer the fatĀ up in smoke on the altar.Ā  [[#Verse 20.]]Ā He must do with the rest of the bull just as he did with the bull of the sin offering; this is what he must do with it.Ā So the priest will make atonementĀ on their behalf and they will be forgiven.Ā  [[#Verse 21.]]Ā HeĀ must bring the rest of the bull outside the campĀ and burn it just as he burned the first bull—it is the sin offering of the assembly. ### For the Leader [[#Verse 22.]]Ā ā€œā€˜WheneverĀ a leader, by straying unintentionally,Ā sins and violates one of the commandments of theĀ LordĀ his God which must not be violated,Ā and he pleads guilty,Ā  [[#Verse 23.]]Ā or his sin that he committedĀ is made known to him,Ā he must bring a flawless male goat as his offering.Ā  [[#Verse 24.]]Ā He must lay his hand on the head of the male goat and slaughterĀ it in the place where the burnt offering is slaughtered before theĀ Lord—it is a sin offering.Ā  [[#Verse 25.]]Ā Then the priest must take some of the blood of the sin offering with his finger and put it on the horns of the altar of burnt offering, and he must pour out the rest of its blood at the base of the altar of burnt offering.Ā  [[#Verse 26.]]Ā Then the priestĀ must offer all of its fat up in smoke on the altar like the fat of the peace-offering sacrifice. So the priest will make atonementĀ on his behalf forĀ his sin and he will be forgiven. ### For the Common Person [[#Verse 27.]]Ā ā€œā€˜If an ordinary individualĀ sins by straying unintentionallyĀ when he violates one of theĀ Lord’s commandments which must not be violated,Ā and he pleads guilty,Ā  [[#Verse 28.]] or his sin that he committedĀ is made known to him,Ā he must bring a flawless female goatĀ as his offering for the sinĀ that he committed.Ā  [[#Verse 29.]]Ā He must lay his hand on the head of the sin offering and slaughterĀ the sin offering in the place where the burnt offering is slaughtered.Ā  [[#Verse 30.]]Ā Then the priest must take some of its blood with his finger and put it on the horns of the altar of burnt offering, and he must pour out all the rest of its blood at the base of the altar.Ā  [[#Verse 31.]]Ā Then he must remove all of its fat (just as fat was removed from the peace-offering sacrifice) and the priest must offer it up in smoke on the altar for a soothing aroma to theĀ Lord. So the priest will make atonementĀ on his behalf and he will be forgiven. [[#Verse 32.]]Ā ā€œā€˜But if he brings a sheep as his offering, for a sin offering, he must bring a flawless female.Ā  [[#Verse 33.]]Ā He must lay his hand on the head of the sin offering and slaughter it for a sin offering in the place where the burnt offering is slaughtered.Ā  [[#Verse 34.]]Ā Then the priest must take some of the blood of the sin offering with his finger and put it on the horns of the altar of burnt offering, and he must pour out all the rest of its blood at the base of the altar.Ā  [[#Verse 36]]Ā Then the one who brought the offeringĀ must remove all its fat (just as the fat of the sheep is removed from the peace-offering sacrifice) and the priest must offer them up in smoke on the altar on top of the other gifts for theĀ Lord. So the priest will make atonementĀ on his behalf for his sin which he has committed and he will be forgiven. ## ==šŸ“– Verse-by-Verse Commentary== ###### Overall. ###### Verse 01. ###### Verse 02. ###### Verse 03. ###### Verse 04. ###### Verse 05. ###### Verse 06. ###### Verse 07. ###### Verse 08. ###### Verse 09. ###### Verse 10. ###### Verse 11. ###### Verse 12. ###### Verse 13. ###### Verse 14. ###### Verse 15. ###### Verse 16. ###### Verse 17. ###### Verse 18. ###### Verse 19. ###### Verse 20. ###### Verse 21. ###### Verse 22. ###### Verse 23. ###### Verse 24. ###### Verse 25. ###### Verse 26. ###### Verse 27. ###### Verse 28. ###### Verse 29. ###### Verse 30. ###### Verse 31. ###### Verse 32. ###### Verse 33. ###### Verse 34. ###### Verse 35. ###### Verse 36. ## šŸ¤” Interesting Facts / Historical and Cultural Insights - coming soon. %% PRIVATE NOTES (only I see this) Write down things that are not straight from commentary but interesting facts that ground the text in history. %% ## 🧠 Chapter Summary - coming soon. %% PRIVATE NOTES (only I see this) Write a short paragraph (3–5 sentences) summarizing what happens in this chapter. - What is the main event or teaching? - How does this chapter fit the book’s overall story? - What stands out immediately?
