Biblical Studies Press, 2005) ### Trespass by Deception and False Oath [[#Verse 01.]]Ā (5:20)Ā Then theĀ LordĀ spoke to Moses:Ā  [[#Verse 02.]]Ā ā€œWhen a person sins and commits a trespassĀ against theĀ LordĀ by deceiving his fellow citizenĀ in regard to something held in trust, or a pledge, or something stolen, or by extorting something from his fellow citizen,Ā  [[#Verse 03.]]Ā or has found something lost and denies it and swears falselyĀ concerning any one of the things that someone might do to sin—  [[#Verse 04.]]Ā when it happens that he sins and he is found guiltyĀ then he must return whatever he had stolen, or whatever he had extorted, or the thing that he had held in trust,Ā or the lost thing that he had found,Ā  [[#Verse 05.]]Ā or anything about which he swears falsely.Ā He must restore it in fullĀ and add one-fifth to it; he must give it to its owner when he is found guilty.Ā  [[#Verse 06.]]Ā Then he must bring his guilt offering to theĀ Lord, a flawless ram from the flock, convertible into silver shekels,Ā for a guilt offering to the priest.Ā  [[#Verse 07.]]Ā So the priest will make atonementĀ on his behalf before theĀ LordĀ and he will be forgivenĀ for whatever he has done to become guilty.ā€ ### Sacrificial Instructions for the Priests: The Burnt Offering [[#Verse 08.]]Ā (6:1)Ā Then theĀ LordĀ spoke to Moses:Ā  [[#Verse 09.]]Ā ā€œCommand Aaron and his sons, ā€˜This is the law of the burnt offering. The burnt offering is to remain on the hearthĀ on the altar all night until morning, and the fire of the altar must be kept burning on it.Ā  [[#Verse 10.]]Ā Then the priest must put on his linen robe and must put linen leggingsĀ over his bare flesh, and he must take up the fatty ashes of the burnt offering that the fire consumed on the altar,Ā and he must place themĀ beside the altar.Ā  [[#Verse 11.]]Ā Then he must take off his clothes and put on other clothes, and he must bring the fatty ashes outside the camp to a ceremonially cleanĀ place,Ā  [[#Verse 12.]]Ā but the fire which is on the altar must be kept burning on it.Ā It must not be extinguished. So the priest must kindle wood on it morning by morning, and he must arrange the burnt offering on it and offer the fat of the peace offering up in smoke on it.Ā  [[#Verse 13.]]Ā A continual fire must be kept burning on the altar. It must not be extinguished. ### The Grain Offering of the Common Person [[#Verse 14.]]Ā ā€œā€˜This is the law of the grain offering. The sons of Aaron are to present itĀ before theĀ LordĀ in front of the altar,Ā  [[#Verse 15.]]Ā and the priestĀ must take up with his hand some of the choice wheat flour of the grain offeringĀ and some of its olive oil, and all of the frankincense that is on the grain offering, and he must offer its memorial portionĀ up in smoke on the altarĀ as a soothing aroma to theĀ Lord.Ā  [[#Verse 16.]]Ā Aaron and his sons are to eat what is left over from it. It must be eaten unleavened in a holy place; they are to eat it in the courtyard of the Meeting Tent.Ā  [[#Verse 17.]]Ā It must not be baked with yeast.Ā I have given it as their portion from my gifts. It is most holy,Ā like the sin offering and the guilt offering.Ā  [[#Verse 18.]]Ā Every male among the sons of Aaron may eat it. It is a perpetual allotted portionĀ throughout your generationsĀ from the gifts of theĀ Lord. Anyone who touches these giftsĀ must be holy.ā€™ā€ ### The Grain Offering of the Priests [[#Verse 19.]]Ā Then theĀ LordĀ spoke to Moses:Ā  [[#Verse 20.]]Ā ā€œThis is the offering of Aaron and his sons which they must present to theĀ LordĀ on the day when he is anointed: a tenth of an ephahĀ of choice wheat flourĀ as a continual grain offering, half of it in the morning and half of it in the evening.Ā  [[#Verse 21.]]Ā It must be made with olive oil on a griddle and you must bring it well soaked,Ā so you must present a grain offering of broken piecesĀ as a soothing aroma to theĀ Lord.Ā  [[#Verse 22.]]Ā The high priest who succeeds himĀ from among his sons must do it. It is a perpetual statute; it must be offered up in smoke as a whole offering to theĀ Lord.Ā  [[#Verse 23.]]Ā Every grain offering of a priest must be a whole offering; it must not be eaten.ā€ ### The Sin Offering [[#Verse 24.]]Ā Then theĀ LordĀ spoke to Moses:Ā  [[#Verse 25.]]Ā ā€œTell Aaron and his sons, ā€˜This is the law of the sin offering. In the place where the burnt offering is slaughtered the sin offering must be slaughtered before theĀ Lord. It is most holy.Ā  [[#Verse 26.]]Ā The priest who offers it for sin is to eat it. It must be eaten in a holy place, in the courtyard of the Meeting Tent.Ā  [[#Verse 27.]]Ā Anyone who touches its meat must be holy, and whoever spatters some of its blood on a garmentĀ must washĀ whatever he spatters it on in a holy place.Ā  [[#Verse 28.]]Ā Any clay vessel it is boiled in must be broken, and if it was boiled in a bronze vessel, then that vesselĀ must be rubbed out and rinsed in water.Ā  [[#Verse 29.]]Ā Any male among the priests may eat it. It is most holy.Ā  [[#Verse 30.]]Ā But any sin offering from which some of its blood is brought into the Meeting Tent to make atonement in the sanctuary must not be eaten. It must be burned up in the fire. ## ==šŸ“– Verse-by-Verse Commentary== ###### Overall. ###### Verse 01. ###### Verse 02. ###### Verse 03. ###### Verse 04. ###### Verse 05. ###### Verse 06. ###### Verse 07. ###### Verse 08. ###### Verse 09. ###### Verse 10. ###### Verse 11. ###### Verse 12. ###### Verse 13. ###### Verse 14. ###### Verse 15. ###### Verse 16. ###### Verse 17. ###### Verse 18. ###### Verse 19. ###### Verse 20. ###### Verse 21. ###### Verse 22. ###### Verse 23. ###### Verse 24. ###### Verse 25. ###### Verse 26. ###### Verse 27. ###### Verse 28. ###### Verse 29. ###### Verse 30. ## šŸ¤” Interesting Facts / Historical and Cultural Insights - coming soon. %% PRIVATE NOTES (only I see this) Write down things that are not straight from commentary but interesting facts that ground the text in history. %% ## 🧠 Chapter Summary - coming soon. %% PRIVATE NOTES (only I see this) Write a short paragraph (3–5 sentences) summarizing what happens in this chapter. - What is the main event or teaching? - How does this chapter fit the book’s overall story? - What stands out immediately?
