Biblical Studies Press, 2005) ### Regulations for the Eating of Priestly Stipends [[#Verse 01.]]Ā TheĀ LordĀ spoke to Moses: [[#Verse 02.]]Ā ā€œTell Aaron and his sons that they must deal respectfully with the holy offeringsĀ of the Israelites, which they consecrate to me, so that they do not profane my holy name.Ā I am theĀ Lord.Ā  [[#Verse 03.]]Ā Say to them, ā€˜Throughout your generations,Ā if any man from all your descendants approaches the holy offerings, which the Israelites consecrateĀ to theĀ Lord, while he is impure,Ā that person must be cut off from before me.Ā I am theĀ Lord.Ā  [[#Verse 04.]]Ā No manĀ from the descendants of Aaron who is diseased or has a dischargeĀ may eat the holy offerings until he becomes clean. The oneĀ who touches anything made unclean by contact with a dead person,Ā or with a man who has a seminal emission,Ā  [[#Verse 05.]]Ā or with a man who touches a swarming thing by which he becomes unclean,Ā or who touches a personĀ by which he becomes unclean, whatever that person’s impurity—  [[#Verse 06.]]Ā the person who touches any of theseĀ will be unclean until evening and must not eat from the holy offerings unless he has bathed his body in water.Ā  [[#Verse 07.]]Ā When the sun goes down he will be clean, and afterward he may eat from the holy offerings, because they are his food. [[#Verse 08.]]Ā He must not eat an animal that has died of natural causesĀ or an animal torn by beasts and thus become unclean by it. I am theĀ Lord.Ā  [[#Verse 09.]]Ā They must keep my charge so that they do not incur sin on account of itĀ and therefore dieĀ because they profane it. I am theĀ LordĀ who sanctifies them. [[#Verse 10.]]Ā ā€œā€˜No lay personĀ may eat anything holy. Neither a priest’s lodgerĀ nor a hired laborer may eat anything holy,Ā  [[#Verse 11.]]Ā but if a priest buys a person with his own money,Ā that personĀ may eat the holy offerings,Ā and those born in the priest’sĀ own house may eat his food.Ā  [[#Verse 12.]]Ā If a priest’s daughter marries a lay person,Ā she may not eat the holy contribution offerings,Ā  [[#Verse 13.]]Ā but if a priest’s daughter is a widow or divorced, and she has no children so that she returns to live inĀ her father’s house as in her youth,Ā she may eat from her father’s food, but no lay person may eat it. [[#Verse 14.]]Ā ā€œā€˜If a man eats a holy offering by mistake,Ā he must add one-fifth to it and give the holy offering to the priest.Ā  [[#Verse 15.]]Ā TheyĀ must not profane the holy offerings which the Israelites contributeĀ to theĀ Lord,Ā  [[#Verse 16.]]Ā and so cause them to incur a penalty for guiltĀ when they eat their holy offerings,Ā for I am theĀ LordĀ who sanctifies them.ā€™ā€ ### Regulations for Offering Votive and Freewill Offerings [[#Verse 17.]]Ā TheĀ LordĀ spoke to Moses:Ā  [[#Verse 18.]]Ā ā€œSpeak to Aaron, his sons, and all the Israelites and tell them, ā€˜When any manĀ from the house of Israel or from the resident foreignersĀ in Israel presents his offering for any of the votive or freewill offerings, which they present to theĀ LordĀ as a burnt offering,Ā  [[#Verse 19.]]Ā if it is to be acceptable for your benefitĀ it must be a flawless male from the cattle, sheep, or goats. [[#Verse 20.]]Ā You must not present anything that has a flaw,Ā because it will not be acceptable for your benefit.Ā  [[#Verse 21.]]Ā If a man presents a peace-offering sacrifice to theĀ LordĀ for a special votive offeringĀ or for a freewill offering from the herd or the flock, it must be flawless to be acceptable;Ā it must have no flaw. [[#Verse 22.]]Ā ā€œā€˜You must not present to theĀ LordĀ something blind, or with a broken bone, or mutilated, or with a running sore,Ā or with a festering eruption, or with a feverish rash.Ā You must not give any of these as a giftĀ on the altar to theĀ Lord.Ā  [[#Verse 23.]]Ā As for an oxĀ or a sheep with a limb too long or stunted,Ā you may present it as a freewill offering, but it will not be acceptable for a votive offering.Ā  [[#Verse 24.]]Ā You must not present to theĀ LordĀ something with testicles that are bruised, crushed, torn, or cut off;Ā you must not do this in your land.Ā  [[#Verse 25.]]Ā Even from a foreignerĀ you must not present the food of your God from such animals as these, for they are ruined and flawed;Ā they will not be acceptable for your benefit.ā€™ā€ [[#Verse 26.]]Ā TheĀ LordĀ spoke to Moses:Ā  [[#Verse 27.]] ā€œWhen an ox, lamb, or goat is born, it must be under the care ofĀ its mother seven days, but from the eighth day onward it will be acceptable as an offering giftĀ to theĀ Lord.Ā  [[#Verse 28.]]Ā You must not slaughter an ox or a sheep and its youngĀ on the same day.Ā  [[#Verse 29.]]Ā When you sacrifice a thanksgiving offering to theĀ Lord, you must sacrifice it so that it is acceptable for your benefit.Ā  [[#Verse 30.]]Ā On that very dayĀ it must be eaten; you must not leave any part of itĀ over until morning. I am theĀ Lord. [[#Verse 31.]]Ā ā€œYou must be sure to do my commandments.Ā I am theĀ Lord.Ā  [[#Verse 32.]]Ā You must not profane my holy name, and I will be sanctified in the midst of the Israelites. I am theĀ LordĀ who sanctifies you,Ā  [[#Verse 33.]]Ā the one who brought you out from the land of Egypt to be your God.Ā I am theĀ Lord.ā€ ## ==šŸ“– Verse-by-Verse Commentary== ###### Overall. ###### Verse 01. ###### Verse 02. ###### Verse 03. ###### Verse 04. ###### Verse 05. ###### Verse 06. ###### Verse 07. ###### Verse 08. ###### Verse 09. ###### Verse 10. ###### Verse 11. ###### Verse 12. ###### Verse 13. ###### Verse 14. ###### Verse 15. ###### Verse 16. ###### Verse 17. ###### Verse 18. ###### Verse 19. ###### Verse 20. ###### Verse 21. ###### Verse 22. ###### Verse 23. ###### Verse 24. ###### Verse 25. ###### Verse 26. ###### Verse 27. ###### Verse 28. ###### Verse 29. ###### Verse 30. ###### Verse 31. ###### Verse 32. ###### Verse 33. ## šŸ¤” Interesting Facts / Historical and Cultural Insights - coming soon. %% PRIVATE NOTES (only I see this) Write down things that are not straight from commentary but interesting facts that ground the text in history. %% ## 🧠 Chapter Summary - coming soon. %% PRIVATE NOTES (only I see this) Write a short paragraph (3–5 sentences) summarizing what happens in this chapter. - What is the main event or teaching? - How does this chapter fit the book’s overall story? - What stands out immediately?
