## đ Scripture Text (NET)
(The NET Bible: New English Translation. Biblical Studies Press, 2005)
### Symbolic Visions of Judgment
[[#Verse 01.]] The Sovereign Lord showed me this: I saw him making locusts just as the crops planted late were beginning to sprout. (The crops planted late sprout after the royal harvest.)Â
[[#Verse 02.]] When they had completely consumed the earthâs vegetation, I said, âSovereign Lord, forgive Israel! How can Jacob survive? He is too weak!â
[[#Verse 03.]] The Lord decided not to do this. âIt will not happen,â the Lord said.
[[#Verse 04.]] The Sovereign Lord showed me this: I saw the Sovereign Lord summoning a shower of fire. It consumed the great deep and devoured the fields.Â
[[#Verse 05.]] I said, âSovereign Lord, stop! How can Jacob survive? He is too weak!â
[[#Verse 06.]] The Lord decided not to do this. The Sovereign Lord said, âThis will not happen either.â
[[#Verse 07.]] He showed me this: I saw the Lord standing by a tin wall holding tin in his hand.Â
[[#Verse 08.]] The Lord said to me, âWhat do you see, Amos?â I said, âTin.â The Lord then said, âLook, I am about to place tin among my people Israel. I will no longer overlook their sin.
[[#Verse 09.]] Isaacâs centers of worship will become desolate; Israelâs holy places will be in ruins. I will attack Jeroboamâs dynasty with the sword.â
### Amos Confronts a Priest
[[#Verse 10.]] Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent this message to King Jeroboam of Israel: âAmos is conspiring against you in the very heart of the kingdom of Israel! The land cannot endure all his prophecies.Â
[[#Verse 11.]] As a matter of fact, Amos is saying this: âJeroboam will die by the sword and Israel will certainly be carried into exile away from its land.ââ
[[#Verse 12.]] Amaziah then said to Amos, âLeave, you visionary! Run away to the land of Judah. Earn your living and prophesy there!Â
[[#Verse 13.]]Â Donât prophesy at Bethel any longer, for a royal temple and palace are here.â
[[#Verse 14.]] Amos replied to Amaziah, âI was not a prophet by profession. No, I was a herdsman who also took care of sycamore fig trees.Â
[[#Verse 15.]] Then the Lord took me from tending flocks and gave me this commission, âGo! Prophesy to my people Israel.âÂ
[[#Verse 10.]]6 So now listen to the Lordâs message! You say, âDonât prophesy against Israel! Donât preach against the family of Isaac!â
[[#Verse 17.]] âTherefore this is what the Lord says: âYour wife will become a prostitute in the streets and your sons and daughters will die violently. Your land will be given to others and you will die in a foreign land. Israel will certainly be carried into exile away from its land.ââ
