Biblical Studies Press, 2005) [[#Verse 01.]] I saw the LordĀ standing by the altarĀ and he said, ā€œStrike the tops of the support pillars,Ā so the thresholds shake! Knock them down on the heads of all the people, and I will kill the survivorsĀ with the sword. No one will be able to run away; no one will be able to escape. [[#Verse 02.]]Ā Even if they could dig down into the netherworld, my hand would pull them up from there. Even if they could climb up to heaven, I would drag them down from there. [[#Verse 03.]]Ā Even if they were to hide on the top of Mount Carmel, I would hunt them down and take them from there. Even if they tried to hide from meĀ at the bottom of the sea, from thereĀ I would command the Sea SerpentĀ to bite them. [[#Verse 04.]]Ā Even when their enemies drive them into captivity, from thereĀ I will command the sword to kill them. I will not let them out of my sight; they will experience disaster, not prosperity.ā€ [[#Verse 05.]]Ā The SovereignĀ LordĀ of Heaven’s Armies will do this. He touches the earth and it dissolves; all who live on it mourn. The whole earthĀ rises like the Nile River, and then grows calmĀ like the Nile in Egypt. [[#Verse 06.]]Ā He builds the upper rooms of his palaceĀ in heaven and sets its foundation supportsĀ on the earth. He summons the water of the sea and pours it out on the earth’s surface. TheĀ LordĀ is his name. [[#Verse 07.]] ā€œYou Israelites are just like the Ethiopians in my sight,ā€Ā says theĀ Lord. ā€œCertainly I brought Israel up from the land of Egypt, but I also brought the Philistines from CaphtorĀ and the Arameans from Kir. [[#Verse 08.]]Ā Look, the SovereignĀ LordĀ is watchingĀ the sinful nation, and I will destroy it from the face of the earth. But I will not completely destroy the familyĀ of Jacob,ā€ says theĀ Lord. [[#Verse 09.]]Ā ā€œFor look, I am giving a command and I will shake the family of Israel together with all the nations. It will resemble a sieve being shaken, when not even a pebble falls to the ground. [[#Verse 10.]]Ā All the sinners among my people will die by the sword— the ones who say, ā€˜Disaster will not come near, it will not confront us.’ ### The Restoration of the Davidic Dynasty [[#Verse 11.]]Ā ā€œIn that day I will rebuild the collapsing hutĀ of David. I will seal itsĀ gaps, repair itsĀ ruins, and restore it to what it was like in days gone by. [[#Verse 12.]]Ā As a result theyĀ will conquer those left in Edom and all the nations subject to my rule.ā€ TheĀ Lord, who is about to do this, is speaking. [[#Verse 13.]]Ā ā€œBe sure of this,Ā the time isĀ coming,ā€ says theĀ Lord, ā€œwhen the plowman will catch up to the reaper, and the one who stomps the grapesĀ will overtakeĀ the planter. Juice will run down the slopes; it will flow down all the hillsides. [[#Verse 10.]] I will bring back my people, Israel; they will rebuild the cities lying in rubbleĀ and settle down. They will plant vineyards and drink the wine they produce; they will grow orchardsĀ and eat the fruit they produce. [[#Verse 15.]]Ā I will plant them on their land, and they will never again be uprooted from theĀ land I have given them,ā€ says theĀ LordĀ your God. ## ==šŸ“– Verse-by-Verse Commentary== ###### Overall. ###### Verse 01. ###### Verse 02. ###### Verse 03. ###### Verse 04. ###### Verse 05. ###### Verse 06. ###### Verse 07. ###### Verse 08. ###### Verse 09. ###### Verse 10. ###### Verse 11. ###### Verse 12. ###### Verse 13. ###### Verse 14. ###### Verse 15. ## šŸ¤” Interesting Facts / Historical and Cultural Insights - coming soon. %% PRIVATE NOTES (only I see this) Write down things that are not straight from commentary but interesting facts that ground the text in history. %% ## 🧠 Chapter Summary - coming soon. %% PRIVATE NOTES (only I see this) Write a short paragraph (3–5 sentences) summarizing what happens in this chapter. - What is the main event or teaching? - How does this chapter fit the book’s overall story? - What stands out immediately?
