Biblical Studies Press, 2005) ### Jerusalem is Corrupt [[#Verse 01.]]Ā Beware to the filthy,Ā stained city; the city filled with oppressors! [[#Verse 02.]]Ā She is disobedient; she has refused correction. She does not trust theĀ Lord; she has not sought the advice ofĀ her God. [[#Verse 03.]]Ā Her princesĀ are as fierce as roaring lions; her rulersĀ are as hungry as wolves in the desert, who completely devour their prey by morning. [[#Verse 04.]]Ā Her prophets are proud; they are deceitful men. Her priests have defiled what is holy; they have broken God’s laws. [[#Verse 05.]]Ā The justĀ LordĀ residesĀ within her; he commits no unjust acts. Every morning he revealsĀ his justice. At dawn he appears without fail. Yet the unjust know no shame. ### The Lord’s Judgment will Purify [[#Verse 06.]]Ā ā€œI destroyedĀ nations; their walled citiesĀ are in ruins. I turned their streets into ruins; no one passes through them. Their cities are desolate; no one lives there. [[#Verse 07.]]Ā I thought,Ā ā€˜Certainly you will respectĀ me! Now you will accept correction!’ If she had done so, her homeĀ would not be destroyed by all the punishments I have threatened. But they eagerly sinned in everything they did. [[#Verse 08.]]Ā Therefore you must wait patientlyĀ for me,ā€ says theĀ Lord, ā€œfor the day when I attack and take plunder. I have decidedĀ to gather nations together and assemble kingdoms, so I can pour out my fury on them— all my raging anger. ForĀ the whole earth will be consumed by my fiery anger. [[#Verse 09.]]Ā Know for sure that I will then enable the nations to give me acceptable praise. All of them will invoke theĀ Lord’s name when they pray, and will worship him in unison. [[#Verse 10.]]Ā From beyond the rivers of Ethiopia, those who pray to me, my dispersed people, will bring me tribute. [[#Verse 11.]]Ā In that day youĀ will not be ashamed of all your rebelliousness against me, for then I will remove from your midst those who proudly boast, and you will never again be arrogant on my holy hill. [[#Verse 12.]]Ā I will leave in your midst a humble and meek group of people, and they will find safety in theĀ Lord’s presence. [[#Verse 13.]]Ā The Israelites who remainĀ will not act deceitfully. They will not lie, and a deceitful tongue will not be found in their mouths. Indeed, they will graze peacefully like sheepĀ and lie down; no one will terrify them.ā€ [[#Verse 14.]]Ā Shout for joy, Daughter Zion! Shout out, Israel! Be happy and boast with all your heart, Daughter Jerusalem! [[#Verse 15.]]Ā TheĀ LordĀ has removed the judgment against you; he has turned back your enemy. Israel’s king, theĀ Lord, is in your midst! You no longer need to fear disaster. [[#Verse 16.]]Ā On that day they will sayĀ to Jerusalem, ā€œDon’t be afraid, Zion! Your hands must not be paralyzed from panic! [[#Verse 17.]]Ā TheĀ LordĀ your God is in your midst; he is a warrior who can deliver. He takes great delight in you; he renews you by his love; he shouts for joy over you.ā€ [[#Verse 18.]]Ā ā€œAs for those who grieve because they cannot attend the festivals— I took them away from you; they became tribute and were a source of shame to you. [[#Verse 19.]]Ā Look, at that time I will deal with those who mistreated you. I will rescue the lame sheep and gather together the scattered sheep. I will take away their humiliation and make the whole earth admire and respect them. [[#Verse 20.]]Ā At that time I will lead you— at the time I gather you together. Be sure of this!Ā I will make all the nations of the earth respect and admire you when you see me restore you,ā€Ā says theĀ Lord. ## ==šŸ“– Verse-by-Verse Commentary== ###### Overall. ###### Verse 01. ###### Verse 02. ###### Verse 03. ###### Verse 04. ###### Verse 05. ###### Verse 06. ###### Verse 07. ###### Verse 08. ###### Verse 09. ###### Verse 10. ###### Verse 11. ###### Verse 12. ###### Verse 13. ###### Verse 14. ###### Verse 15. ###### Verse 16. ###### Verse 17. ###### Verse 18. ###### Verse 19. ###### Verse 20. ## šŸ¤” Interesting Facts / Historical and Cultural Insights - coming soon. %% PRIVATE NOTES (only I see this) Write down things that are not straight from commentary but interesting facts that ground the text in history. %% ## 🧠 Chapter Summary - coming soon. %% PRIVATE NOTES (only I see this) Write a short paragraph (3–5 sentences) summarizing what happens in this chapter. - What is the main event or teaching? - How does this chapter fit the book’s overall story? - What stands out immediately?
