Biblical Studies Press, 2005) ### The Blowing of Trumpets [[#Verse 01.]]Ā TheĀ LordĀ spoke to Moses:Ā  [[#Verse 02.]]Ā ā€œMakeĀ two trumpets of silver; you are to makeĀ them from a single hammered piece.Ā You will use themĀ for assembling the community and for directing the traveling of the camps.Ā  [[#Verse 03.]] WhenĀ they blowĀ them both, all the community must comeĀ to you to the entrance of the tent of meeting. [[#Verse 04.]]Ā ā€œBut if they blow with one trumpet, then the leaders, the heads of the thousands of Israel, must come to you.Ā  [[#Verse 05.]]Ā When you blow an alarm,Ā then the camps that are locatedĀ on the east side must begin to travel.Ā  [[#Verse 06.]]Ā And when you blow an alarm the second time, then the camps that are located on the south side must begin to travel.Ā An alarm must be soundedĀ for their journeys.Ā  [[#Verse 07.]]Ā But when you assemble the community,Ā you must blow the trumpets,Ā but you must not sound an alarm.Ā  [[#Verse 08.]]Ā The sons of Aaron, the priests, must blow the trumpets, and they will be to you for an eternal ordinance throughout your generations.Ā  [[#Verse 09.]]Ā If you go to war in your land against an adversary who opposesĀ you, then you must sound an alarm with the trumpets, and you will be remembered before theĀ LordĀ your God, and you will be savedĀ from your enemies. [[#Verse 10.]]Ā ā€œAlso, in the time when you rejoice, such asĀ on your appointed festivals orĀ at the beginnings of your months, you must blow with your trumpets over your burnt offerings and over the sacrifices of your peace offerings, so that they mayĀ becomeĀ a memorial for you before your God: I am theĀ LordĀ your God.ā€ ### The Journey From Sinai to Kadesh [[#Verse 11.]]Ā On the twentieth day of the second month, in the second year, the cloud was taken up from the tabernacle of the testimony.Ā  [[#Verse 12.]] So the Israelites set outĀ on their journeys from the desertĀ of Sinai; and the cloud settled in the wilderness of Paran. ### Judah Begins the Journey [[#Verse 13.]]Ā This was the first time they set out on their journey according to the commandmentĀ of theĀ Lord, by the authorityĀ of Moses. [[#Verse 14.]]Ā The standardĀ of the camp of the Judahites set out first according to their companies, and over his company was Nahshon son of Amminadab. [[#Verse 15.]]Ā Over the company of the tribe of Issacharites was Nathanel son of Zuar,Ā  [[#Verse 16.]]Ā and over the company of the tribe of the Zebulunites was Eliab son of Helon.Ā  [[#Verse 17.]]Ā Then the tabernacle was dismantled, and the sons of Gershon and the sons of Merari set out, carrying the tabernacle. ### Journey Arrangements for the Tribes [[#Verse 18.]]Ā The standard of the camp of Reuben set out according to their companies; over his company was Elizur son of Shedeur.Ā  [[#Verse 19.]]Ā Over the company of the tribe of the Simeonites was Shelumiel son of Zurishaddai,Ā  [[#Verse 20.]]Ā and over the company of the tribe of the Gadites was Eliasaph son of Deuel.Ā  [[#Verse 21.]]Ā And the Kohathites set out, carrying the articles for the sanctuary;Ā the tabernacle was to be set upĀ before they arrived.Ā  [[#Verse 22.]]Ā And the standard of the camp of the Ephraimites set out according to their companies; over his company was Elishama son of Ammihud.Ā  [[#Verse 23.]]Ā Over the company of the tribe of the Manassehites was Gamaliel son of Pedahzur,Ā  [[#Verse 24.]]Ā and over the company of the tribe of Benjaminites was Abidan son of Gideoni. [[#Verse 25.]]Ā The standard of the camp of the Danites set out, which was the rear guardĀ of all the camps by their companies; over his company was Ahiezer son of Ammishaddai.Ā  [[#Verse 26.]]Ā Over the company of the tribe of the Asherites was Pagiel son of Ocran,Ā  [[#Verse 27.]]Ā and over the company of the tribe of the Naphtalites was Ahira son of Enan.Ā  [[#Verse 28.]]Ā These were the traveling arrangementsĀ of the Israelites according to their companies when they traveled. ### The Appeal to Hobab [[#Verse 29.]]Ā Ā Moses said to Hobab son of Reuel, the Midianite, Moses’ father-in-law,Ā ā€œWe are journeying to the place about which theĀ LordĀ said, ā€˜I will give it to you.’ Come with us and we will treat you well,Ā for theĀ LordĀ has promised good thingsĀ for Israel.ā€Ā  [[#Verse 30.]]Ā But HobabĀ said to him, ā€œI will not go, but I will go instead to my own land and to my kindred.ā€Ā  [[#Verse 31.]]Ā MosesĀ said, ā€œDo not leave us,Ā because you know places for us to camp in the wilderness, and you could be our guide.Ā  [[#Verse 32.]]Ā And if you come with us, it is certainĀ that whatever good things theĀ LordĀ will favor us with, we will share with you as well.ā€ [[#Verse 33.]]Ā So they traveled from the mountain of theĀ LordĀ three days’ journey;Ā and the ark of the covenant of theĀ LordĀ was traveling before them during the three days’ journey, to find a resting place for them.Ā  [[#Verse 34.]]Ā And the cloud of theĀ LordĀ was over them by day, when they traveledĀ from the camp.Ā  [[#Verse 35.]]Ā And when the ark traveled, Moses would say, ā€œRise up, OĀ Lord! May your enemies be scattered, and may those who hate you flee before you!ā€Ā  [[#Verse 36.]]Ā And when it came to rest he would say, ā€œReturn, OĀ Lord, to the many thousands of Israel!ā€ ## ==šŸ“– Verse-by-Verse Commentary== ###### Overall. ###### Verse 01. ###### Verse 02. ###### Verse 03. ###### Verse 04. ###### Verse 05. ###### Verse 06. ###### Verse 07. ###### Verse 08. ###### Verse 09. ###### Verse 10. ###### Verse 11. ###### Verse 12. ###### Verse 13. ###### Verse 14. ###### Verse 15. ###### Verse 16. ###### Verse 17. ###### Verse 18. ###### Verse 19. ###### Verse 20. ###### Verse 21. ###### Verse 22. ###### Verse 23. ###### Verse 24. ###### Verse 25. ###### Verse 26. ###### Verse 27. ###### Verse 28. ###### Verse 29. ###### Verse 30. ###### Verse 31. ###### Verse 32. ###### Verse 33. ###### Verse 34. ###### Verse 35. ###### Verse 36. ## šŸ¤” Interesting Facts / Historical and Cultural Insights - coming soon. %% PRIVATE NOTES (only I see this) Write down things that are not straight from commentary but interesting facts that ground the text in history. %% ## 🧠 Chapter Summary - coming soon. %% PRIVATE NOTES (only I see this) Write a short paragraph (3–5 sentences) summarizing what happens in this chapter. - What is the main event or teaching? - How does this chapter fit the book’s overall story? - What stands out immediately?
