Biblical Studies Press, 2005) #### The Ministry of John the Baptist **Title**: **Principle**: Follow God, Not Culture [[#Verse 01]] In those days John the Baptist came into the wilderness of Judea proclaiming,  [[#Verse 02]] “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near.”  [[#Verse 03]] For he is the one about whom the prophet Isaiah had spoken: “**_The voice_** **_of one shouting in the wilderness,_** ‘**_Prepare the way for the Lord, make_** **_his paths straight_**.’” [[#Verse 04]] Now John wore clothing made from camel’s hair with a leather belt around his waist, and his diet consisted of locusts and wild honey.  [[#Verse 05]] Then people from Jerusalem, as well as all Judea and all the region around the Jordan, were going out to him,  [[#Verse 06]] and he was baptizing them in the Jordan River as they confessed their sins. [[#Verse 07]] But when he saw many Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, “You offspring of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath?  [[#Verse 08]] Therefore produce fruit that proves your repentance,  [[#Verse 09]] and don’t think you can say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I tell you that God can raise up children for Abraham from these stones!  [[#Verse 10]] Even now the ax is laid at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire. [[#Verse 11]] “I baptize you with water, for repentance, but the one coming after me is more powerful than I am—I am not worthy to carry his sandals! He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.  [[#Verse 12]] His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will clean out his threshing floor and will gather his wheat into the storehouse, but the chaff he will burn up with inextinguishable fire!” #### The Baptism of Jesus **Title**: **Principle**: How the LORD Sees Us [[#Verse 13]] Then Jesus came from Galilee to John to be baptized by him in the Jordan River.  [[#Verse 14]] But John tried to prevent him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and yet you come to me?”  [[#Verse 15]] So Jesus replied to him, “Let it happen now, for it is right for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then John yielded to him.  [[#Verse 16]] AfterJesus was baptized, just as he was coming up out of the water, the heavens opened and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him.  [[#Verse 17]] And a voice from heaven said, “This is my one dear Son; in himI take great delight.” # ==📖 Verse-by-Verse Commentary== ##### Verse 01 ##### Verse 02 ##### Verse 03 ##### Verse 04 ##### Verse 05 ##### Verse 06 ##### Verse 07 ##### Verse 08 ##### Verse 09 ##### Verse 10 ##### Verse 11 ##### Verse 12 ##### Verse 13 ##### Verse 14 ##### Verse 15 ##### Verse 16 ##### Verse 17 ## 🤔 Interesting Facts / Historical and Cultural Insights - coming soon. %% PRIVATE NOTES (only I see this) Write down things that are not straight from commentary but interesting facts that ground the text in history. %% ## 🧠 Chapter Summary - coming soon. %% PRIVATE NOTES (only I see this) Write a short paragraph (3–5 sentences) summarizing what happens in this chapter. - What is the main event or teaching? - How does this chapter fit the book’s overall story? - What stands out immediately?
