It contains messages to the churches, vivid imagery of spiritual warfare, and the promise of Christ’s return to judge the wicked and restore creation. Revelation assures believers that, despite present suffering, God is sovereign and will bring eternal hope, justice, and a new heaven and earth. > “The book of Revelation is not given to satisfy our curiosity about the future but to strengthen our courage in the present.” — John Lennox, A Soldier’s Guide to the Book of Revelation **DUAL VIEW**- Most people miss the point that the Book of Revelation was intended to be a book of hope and encouragement for the early church. The early church was going through a time of massive persecution and pressure to compromise with emperor worship. John’s revelation of Jesus is a view of the True King. - Throughout the entire book, there is a dual image happening. - View One- God displaying judgment on the Earth and “battling” with evil. - View Two- God in Heaven in perfect Sovereign control over all things. - Bottom Line- The world will look like chaos, but the King is unmoved. --- ## 🧭 Theme Verse > Revelation 1:7 (ESV) “Behold, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him, and all tribes of the earth will wail on account of him. Even so. Amen.” --- ## 🧭 Major Themes 🔥 1. The Sovereignty of God and the Lordship of Christ - God is on the throne (Rev. 4) and in absolute control of history. - Jesus is portrayed as the slain yet victorious Lamb and King of kings. - All of creation is moving toward the fulfillment of His purposes. 👑 2. The Return and Victory of Christ - Revelation reveals the final return of Jesus in glory and power. - Christ defeats evil, judges the wicked, and establishes His eternal Kingdom. 💀 3. Judgment of Evil and Justice of God - God’s judgment is poured out through seals, trumpets, and bowls. - Babylon (symbolizing corrupt human systems) is judged. - Satan, the beast, and the false prophet are all defeated and cast into the lake of fire. 💪 4. Endurance and Faithfulness of the Saints - Believers are called to overcome, endure suffering, and stay faithful. - The churches in chapters 2–3 are evaluated based on their loyalty to Christ under pressure. 🕊 5. Hope and Restoration - Despite the chaos, Revelation ends in hope: a new heaven and new earth. - God dwells with His people. There is no more death, pain, or tears. 🧎‍♂️ 6. Worship of the Lamb - Heaven is filled with scenes of worship, exalting God and the Lamb. - True worship contrasts with false worship (idolatry and allegiance to the beast). 🐉 7. Spiritual Warfare - Revelation unveils the unseen war between good and evil. - Satan deceives and persecutes, but Michael and the Lamb conquer. 🌍 8. The Cosmic Scope of Redemption - Revelation expands the vision of salvation beyond individuals to all creation. - The ultimate goal is the restoration of all things under Christ’s reign. --- ## 📅 Outline of Book #### 1. We should look at the text from the POV of the original readers. * Historistist- Yes. We should pay attention to how Revelation looks at the overview idea of God moving through history. * Amil- Yes. We should not read too much into the symbolism. * PreMil- Yes. It does have parts that deal with the End of Time. ### From Bema What we believe about how it all ends affects how we live today. Revelation is not primarily about the end of the world. It is primary a letter written to 7 churches that are being persecuted and are standing up for their lives. They are watching execution of their brothers and sisters and are wondering if it is all worth it.” -BEMA podcast. (John says it is.) Look at BEMA podcast for amazing details.
