It’s difficult to fully figure him out. It would have been great to know his story because he followed Jesus while remaining on the Sanhedrin. Maybe because of his obscurity in the text, it has given rise to various legends which muddy the historical truth. What we know for sure is that he was wealthy, a man of influence, probably a merchant, and continued to follow Jesus after the events recorded in the Bible. Part of the Jewish Sanhedrin. Would love to have known his story. He would stood out for opposing the rest of the council toward Jesus. However, he may have been a silent minority. Wealthy man. Heard a scholar say he could be the “rich young ruler.” Possibly the uncle of of Jesus’ Mother, Mary Legend- Mad many trips to Britain for trade and is said to have eventually taken the Gospel there. Possible legend that he was a merchant in metals and may have taken young Jesus with him to England, India, and even South America. (No evidence for this.) Went preaching with Philip, Mary Magdalene, Lazarus and others to Gaul between 37 and 63AD. One of the 70 apostles appointed in Luke 10. Legend- Took a staff made from the thorns of Jesus crown to England.
