**Definition of Textual Criticism**- Textual criticism is the science and art of comparing all known manuscript copies of a document to identify and correct scribal errors, intentional changes, or omissions in order to recover the most authentic version of the text.

- Manuscript comparison: Different copies of the same text are compared.
- Variants: Differences among manuscripts are cataloged and evaluated.
- External evidence: Manuscript age, location, and family (text type) are considered.
- Internal evidence: Grammar, author’s style, and logical coherence are used to judge which reading makes the most sense.
