Definition of Second Blessing- The infilling of the Holy Spirit is a separate work of salvation. The evidence of this second blessing is the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
- This is mainly taught by Pentecostal denominations such as Assembly of God and Church of God.
My view- I do not hold to the second blessing theology. I believe the Bible teaches that when we are saved (regenerated), we receive the full measure of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. Then, we begin the process of sanctification. This process is where we mature in our relationship with God.
The book of Acts is more descriptive than prescriptive. This means Acts 2 is not a description of how the Holy Spirit always indwells people. It means this is how it happened the first time.
Good news- this means believers are not waiting to graduate to another step of holiness. We can walk in the fullness of the Spirit from the beginning. It is more about us maturing in the things of God and not waiting for another experience.
Clearest evidence of this not being a Biblical doctrine.
- If it were, where is it? Wouldn’t this become one of the greatest teachings in the NT. However, do not see any clear teaching that this is how salvation and infilling operates in the life of the believe. The most supporters of this doctrine have is descriptions in Acts.
1. There are places in Acts where this doesn’t happen. Example- Philip and the Ethiopian Eunuch.

Why is this teaching unhelpful?
* It causes people to feel as though there are those who are “better” Christians than others.
* It can leave people feeling as though they have not “arrived” yet.
