Huge portion of our faith. * It separates us from all other religions. We believe God has an eternal Son. **God is ONE in _BEING_ and THREE in _PERSON_**. * Being- what makes you WHAT you are. * Person- what makes you WHO you are. * Ex- Me- I am a human being... Person- I am husband, father, friend. * Difference in role... * The president and I are both human... equal in that way. However, in role he is greater than I am. I am a citizen and he is a leader of citizens. **_HOW THE TRINITY HELPS IN PRAYER?_** How do you know if you know if you “have the right number?” We pray **_TO_** the Father, **_THROUGH_** the Son, **_BY_** the Spirit. * Jesus says in John to pray to the Father yourself not ask Jesus to talk to the Father for you because the Father Himself loves you and wants to commune with you. * Jesus instructs in the Lord’s Prayer to pray to the Father. He could have easily said to Him but He sets the example to pray to the Father ourselves. * Therefore, we talk to the Father, by access through Jesus, by the Power (Direction) of the Spirit. It’s okay to pray specifically to one of the Trinity when the Bible says certain things are done by them. * Ex- Holy Spirit convicts people. Pray for Him to convict others. * Ex- Jesus died for our sins. Thank Jesus for doing that. * Ex- Father sent Son. Thank the Father for doing this. **_WHY DOES JESUS SAY THAT THE FATHER IS GREATER THAN I? (John 14:28)_** Look at context. Not greater in being... different in role. He is not saying that the Father is greater “as God.” They are equal. He is saying His role is greater... leader. Just like in a marriage. Husband and wife are not better than each other. Just different. Their being is equal. Jesus is not saying that He is “God, Jr.” He is saying they are the same essence but different in role. Can also be looked at Jesus saying the Father has a greater at that time because He was on Earth and, for a limited time, confined to a physical body. **_GETTING OUR HEAD AROUND THE INFINITE_** God uses the terms: Father, Son, and Spirit to help us get our heads around how to relate to these different parts of Him. He gave us these names for our benefit not His. He already knows who He is much better than we do. He knew who He was before He created the languages we have now. Equal in **nature** but unequal in **roles**. **_FATHER_**\- Means to be life-giving.
